Hurrian Military Chariot
Hurrian military chariot
We continue our spiritual wandering in the ancient Near-East with a mysterious nation, the Hurrians, who lived in the southern part of Syria, but around 2300 BC, they appeared in Mesopotamia too, especially along the River Tigris. The origin of the Hurrians is unknown - but it is certain that they are neither of Semitic, nor of Indo-European origin. Their religion and culture was composed of their own, Sumerian and Canaanite elements. In the graphic it can be seen that the ‘crew’ of the chariot consisted of a driver and an archer. It goes without saying that the helmet with bullhorns here also symbolises divine power.
